The Liberty Printing Mill in Olonia, Italy

I had such a great time with these guys, so much fun being in it together. Here we are - the winners, visiting The Liberty printing mill in Olonia, Italy. So exciting seeing our designs on tana lawn and silk satin , in s o many different colourways.

A fresh 3am rise and breakfast gin and tonic on the plane followed by a whirlwind trip to the Liberty printing mill in Olonia, just outside of Milan. It was an absolutely fascinating experience, the staff were fantastic and the machines were huge, pretty impressive. It was amazing to see the printing process in action, we even spotted some Versace. There are so many stages before this remarkable fabric is in your hands.

Best of all was seeing the strike-offs in both Liberty’s famous Tana Lawn cotton and luxurious silk, with my winning designs created from my painting, Graffiti Summer. It was amazing to see our actual designs printed onto fabric and wonderful to see how the colours and design dramatically changed between the satin silk and Tana Lawn cotton allowing the design to become dynamic, creating totally different looks. We also had an incredible tour of the factory - the care and attention to detail that goes into printing the fabrics was something to behold.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing which colour-ways make it to the final selection, chosen this week by Liberty’s head buyer, all to be ready for the in -store launch 8th May.
